Well believe it or not, eating healthy has nothing to do with a mono diet or adopting one of the latest extreme food trends (which by the way as the latest phone, will be totally obsolete in a couple of weeks). It has nothing to do neither with ditching a whole food group or stuffing yourself with appetite-suppressant...

I believe eating healthy is a mix of all this :
- A various diet : eating a bit of everything in reasonable quantity with a clear focus on plant-based ingredients,
- A practice of conscious eating : by listening to what your body is asking you for (except if he asks you for this Cream-cheese cupcake or Chocolate bar every day around 5pm...)
- Some organization !
Some organization as it is soooo easy to eat unhealthy with our crazy modern lifestyle !
Actually, who would take time to cook a super yummy and healthy dinner everyday when the alarm is snoozing at 6.30am, your day at work or with the kids are often reaching the 12hours and you are trying to squeeze some workout and a social life into this mad routine !?! Who would spend time in the kitchen when your favorite fast food is just one click/ring away ? And who can afford to spend a good part of its salary for healthy food delivery on regular basis ? Not everyone for sure.
And this is my all point ! To eat healthy and beat the lack of time or the laziness, we need to get organized enough to make sure to always have immediately available healthy food options to grab. Amazing idea on the paper, but how to achieve that ? Well...
1st of all DO THE GROCERY
Make sure to do the grocery once a week and fill your fridge with fresh products ! Just avoid going with an empty stomach (we shop stupid stuff when we are angry) and try as much as you can to avoid rush hours (save yourself from the stress). Last but not least, do 90% of your food shopping in the fresh products section in order to avoid at the maximum processed food.
2nd of all DO SOME BATCH COOKING
What is that ? Well, batch cooking basically consists on cooking bigger quantities of food and cooking for the all week ahead. Sounds fun but...
Not fan a cooking ? Good news, these 2/3 hours in the kitchen will save you plenty of time (and stress) during the rest of the week to do all the other things you like. Pick a moment during the week and stay away from the kitchen the rest of the days !
It might seems impossible and time-consuming at the beginning but with time and experience, it will get easier and you'll appreciate the spare time for your other activities.
Ok but what I cook ?
Well I usually cook this :
- boiled eggs, oats, chia pudding and fruits compote for breakfast
- 3 animal/fish proteins & 2 vegetarians dishes, some cereals and greens for lunch
- 1 big salad (sauce aside) and 1 big soup for dinner
- some healthy snacks (washed and cut fresh fruits, energy balls, vegetable sticks...)
Yep and then ?
I just box everything to ensure a better conservation in the fridge and if I cook Saturday night, place the Wednesday & Thursday lunches in the freezer.
And here we go ! We have fresh, healthy, home-made food for all the week days !
I usually do not cook for the week end when I mostly go out or just take more time to make a fresh family meal.
Want another great news : with batch cooking, no over eating ! If you tend to bite off more than you can chew, this might be your key to drop the few pounds you've been trying to loose forever, everything coming in portion, there is no way to over indulge (well unless you stuff giant food box with extra quantities but you can manage).
Well to sum up, time saver, healthy and bank account friendly, the batch cooking is probably the best kept secret for an healthier life style. I strongly advise you to give it a try, you'll experience its benefit in no time ! Do not get discouraged if you do not have ideas of what to cook, keep it simple, follow some blogs, create a Pinterest with recipe ideas... The simplest dishes are usually the best for batch cooking : curry, pasta with sauce, one-skillet recipes or Buddha bowl... there are a lot of yummy simple options for you, even if you have no ambition of participating to the next Masterchef !
Stay healthy, be happy !
