Here we are, winter has reached Dubai. Temperatures are dropping and the forecasts announced below 20C starting from Saturday (this is when my European friends are telling me "20 ? Seriously ?!?!? It is 5C here !!!!"), which means when your body has been used to +30/40C for months that you gonna get cold and slightly more tired than usual. As I am trying to avoid taking any medication for some months, I use natural remedies to get prevent or get rid of the symptoms and among all the spices, like cinnamon, ginger or black pepper, there is one you should consider taking, all year long actually, but especially in this time of season change.

The Turmeric, also cold curcuma, is the main spice used in the Indian curry mix. Some people consider it as the ultimate superfood as researches have proven so many of its benefits. Among them, Turmeric would prevent cancer and heart disease, reduce blood pressure, calm Osteoarthritis pain or has an impact on diabetes.
Coming from the same family as ginger, the Turmeric is also recognized for being a strong detoxifier and anti-inflammatory. Used in Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine for years, to treat infections, he is your best ally to fight a nasty cold.
How to consume it ? If the best way is definitely raw, freshly grated on salad, or dressing, you can also take it as a supplement thru pills or thru its most famous version, the Turmeric powder you can add to your soups or use to replace your coffee by drinking a mesmerizing Golden Latte. I buy my powder in Organic supermarket or at the Spice Souk in Deira.

The best Golden Latte in town is definitely at Wild&The Moon (Al Serkal Avenue, H77, Al Quoz 1 Dubai - Everyday 8am to 7pm) but if you feel adventurous, here is the recipe :
Heat 2 cups of unsweeten the almond milk on a small pot at low temperature. Add 1 tsp of turmeric, 1 tsp of cinnamon, 3 cardamon pods, 1 tsp of raw honey or maple syrup, and some black pepper and stir frequently for about 3 minutes until the milk is warm, but not boiling. Strain the milk either through a strainer or small colander. Froth the top of the milk for a few seconds with a milk frother. Add more raw honey or coconut syrup for taste
